Funny Business

[00:07:30] S2: Yeah. It's pretty weird at the start. Like, our first three episodes, I think we had a political activist and a bodybuilder, then a social entrepreneur. I think we had, like, a huge Trump supporter on, then we had, like, a really left wing person on, and just, like, getting different viewpoints about really different things just because we're curious. And then I think over time, like, our just natural inclination and interest took over. Then it became more about business, and we sort of learned more about tech and venture capital. And it was like, you know, that just created this snowball effect of us going deeper and deeper into that world. And then eventually, it became known as, like, this sort of tech podcast. And, like, we just... A a lot of people, like, would ask us, like, oh, how did you get to doing so many episodes? How did you stay committed? But it's, like, that was never a question for us. We just like doing it. And, like, we're meeting cool people, having these conversations. It has other benefits. So we just kept on doing it for years.

[00:08:21] S3: I I think you guys will feel this, but, like, the podcast is very reflect... A reflection of where you are at at... In that current point of your life. Like, I... Like, even a couple of years ago, our podcast, we started to ask our guests a lot more about love and their personal lives because we're grappling with those questions ourselves. Like, how do you run a business and have a good relationship at the same time? And, like, nowadays, we're getting on more founders than investors because we're both... Know we're not gonna go down the investing path in the next few years. So now we wanna learn more from founders and people building things. So it's like very much reflects where you were at in your life. [00:08:50] S0: I love that. I always worry about it with my future kids going back and listening to all the stuff that we're... We record because it's like you can really... It's like an open journal sometimes. And when you do so [00:09:00] S1: much content, [00:09:01] S0: I feel like you can forget sometimes that you're just, like, sharing stuff. I don't know. You you feel like... Because you're not a big sharer, are you?

[00:09:01] S0: I feel like you can forget sometimes that you're just, like, sharing stuff. I don't know. You you feel like... Because you're not a big sharer, are you? [00:09:07] S1: No. I feel like the podcast for me... We don't do as much content as what you lads are doing now from like a a video perspective. But again, like, I feel like when we kicked our pod off, which is still sort of similar sort of time, it was still new, like pods are... I feel like now it's very saturated people who wanna start a pod. There's very low barriers to entry, people who wanna do it. A lot of people who are, I think there's a little like spoiled for choice on what you wanna listen to, and I think for us, and I think similar for what you guys are doing is like there wasn't that many people covering business in Australia. You know, like there was from like May... Like mass media sort of angles, but no one that was really trying to cover it with any sort of like energy in a different perspective that wasn't so [00:09:48] S2: serious, like, suit and [00:09:49] S1: tie sort of sort [00:09:50] S0: of vibes.

[00:09:50] S0: of vibes. [00:09:51] S1: And, like, again, I really echo what you guys are saying, like, having the opportunity to meet and pick people's brains. It almost... There's a big element of, like, that selfish endeavors. Like, oh, we're learning too. I feel like people are making lots of money. People are asking questions like, oh, like, what are you learning about outside of this? And I used to be someone who used to consume, like, oodles amount, like like, ridiculous amounts of comment. Info obesity. Yeah. Like, oh, I wanted to take in a bunch of this stuff, but then since since we started the pod four years ago, I've really struggled to, like, have the same amount of interest because I feel like we're so lucky and grateful now that we can get people on like yourselves and learn about different topics. I feel like that's for me, it's like learning through the work versus like just rote learning or theory learning. [00:10:34] S3: Yeah. It's noticing your guys' different personalities because like Rob, you definitely feel like the more like slightly analytical, like, you think a lot before you speak, and then Lach, you you seem like more extroverted. Just, like, get it out there. [00:10:48] S0: I'm very measured. I feel like I'm very measured. [00:10:50] S1: No. No. I feel [00:10:50] S0: like sometimes, though, like, that's why I think we work well together is because we sort of even each other out in that sort of sense. So no one's like... We're never really both that uncomfortable. Either one of us is uncomfortable and the other one's working through it for us

[00:10:50] S0: like sometimes, though, like, that's why I think we work well together is because we sort of even each other out in that sort of sense. So no one's like... We're never really both that uncomfortable. Either one of us is uncomfortable and the other one's working through it for us [00:11:04] S1: or Lach's definitely an extrovert. But he's an he's an extroverted introvert. I think he can turn it on when he needs to, [00:11:09] S0: but he can happily be a recluse. But I just love this, like, curiosity. Yeah? That's a big thing for you guys and, like, finding out how people operate. I'm sure you've had so many cool guests on, but is there any that sort of spring out to mind where you were like, holy shit. Like, this is crazy. I can't believe we're sort of getting getting this person on and then sort
00:11:26 · Adam Miller
[00:11:26] S2: of snowballing on from there? Yeah. There's... I think, like, sometimes you have really big guests on, like, when we had on Malcolm Turnbull in, like, 2021, and it just felt a bit like, wow, we're talking to a former prime minister and it feels like, you know, like, really exciting in the moment and just... Yeah. Because it's a big guess, but then sometimes you get on guests that, like, you're excited about, but then they just tell you a story which you feel is really amazing. Or you're sitting in the room and you're just, like, you're entranced and you're, this is the most incredible story I've I've ever heard. Like, we had on a quantum physicist called Michelle Simmons on a few weeks ago. She's a former Australian of the year. And she was talking about her effort to build a quantum computer and about how all her intensity in life is directed to that. And it's just this conversation where you're so present and engaged because you're hearing someone talk about something that's so important at such a fundamental level and someone with so much passion for what they're doing. And it's just the most exciting thing in the world being in those conversations and hearing the truth come out of someone's mouth. Or, like, when we talked to Nick Crocker, like a Blackbird partner about the struggles of his relationship when he had, like, a seven year long distance relationship when he moved to New York to build a company. And it's just a really emotional conversation, and sometimes those hit you in the feels really hard. So there's, yeah, there's so many different elements of how it can hit you. Yeah. I feel
