[01:24:29] S7: You know, at some point, he's gonna retire. Who knows? Three, five years, whatever. He loves his job. He's not going anywhere anywhere soon. He needs to have, like, potential successors in place because services is a big part of of the company. Yeah. And so you've basically now got Oliver Schusser Mhmm. Who's the head of Apple Music, Apple Sports, Apple TV business, a few things. He's there. He's sort of kind of a shoe in. But you never wanna be in sort of a lame duck situation where you only got one successor. And then the Apple services business is so big that it may not be a clean-cut replace Eddie with Oliver. Mhmm. And so you may need two people. And so what they did is they moved Adrian Perica, who was the head of M and A, under Eddy Cue. And he's running a lot of the business side of services. And so that's one factor why they took M and A away from from Adrian Mhmm. To sort of put him in the services sort of pipeline there as a potential successor. I think more than potential as a successor to Eddy Cue eventually. The other factor is that Ternus and the hardware engineering guys and the technology guys, they've had gripes for decades that this guy buys no one. [01:25:34] S1: Oh, interesting. [01:25:35] S7: Right? The the joke... [01:25:36] S0: They're like, give us something to work [01:25:37] S7: The joke with Apple M and A is they do nothing. Yeah. It's the easiest job in the world. Right? This is how the the hardware guys... Yeah. This is how the hardware guys think of it. [01:25:47] S1: You just have an auto responder.
01:25:47 · John Coogan, Mark Gurman, Jordi Hays
[01:25:47] S1: You just have an auto responder. [01:25:48] S7: Basically. Right? [01:25:49] S1: We're interested in buying... [01:25:50] S0: And so... They do buy a lot but it's like [01:25:52] S1: Small companies. [01:25:53] S0: Tiny teams. They're they're like, you can't announce it. [01:25:55] S7: We want cool stuff. Yeah. [01:25:57] S1: Okay. But it's not like... There's a different version of Apple which is like they're buying Sonos and they're buying Nest and they're Ring and they're Which they should like all these things and like Which they [01:26:05] S7: should have. [01:26:05] S1: Apple ifying them over time. Yes. [01:26:07] S7: They've done nothing. [01:26:08] S1: They've done nothing. K? [01:26:09] S7: And so I think you have the Eddie thing as as, you know, one reason. I think the other reason is that Ternus wanted a changing the guard on M and A, someone who's gonna sort of, you know, get cracking. Mhmm. And so I don't know if they'll buy instinct, I but think they have a better chance of buying Instinct than they did. [01:26:26] S0: That's actually very interesting. [01:26:27] S7: And they did three [01:26:27] S0: months ago. It feels like they need some way to insert people into the company that can innovate on software. [01:26:33] S7: That's true. The software side of things right now, think, is the weakest part of Yeah. Of Apple. [01:26:39] S1: Well, we had an idea for an extension. [01:26:41] S0: Yeah. I'm being a little bit too hard on them. [01:26:43] S1: Yeah.
01:26:43 · John Coogan, Jordi Hays, Mark Gurman
[01:26:43] S1: Yeah. [01:26:43] S0: Just... They clearly are... They they make the best devices. Yeah. But they don't make [01:26:48] S7: the best software. Actually, I take that back. Maybe they do make the best software. It's just not as good as as [01:26:55] S0: they could. Yeah. Yeah. [01:26:56] S1: Yeah. So... If they wanna if they wanna expand Apple services, have they looked at Apple markets or some sort of like casino game integration on your phone? [01:27:05] S7: You know, we did a story on Bloomberg Businessweek six months ago or so that said that Apple makes more money from casino games, that type of game Yeah. Than they make on the Mac. What? Because if you think about how much money the App Store makes and what percentage of the App Store is these, like, casino type of games [01:27:30] S1: Yeah. [01:27:31] S7: It's like... It's billions. [01:27:33] S1: So they could vertically integrate. Maybe even open... Vertical integrate. [01:27:35] S7: I don't think they would go on could even [01:27:37] S0: open a physical play. What can they do on the app? [01:27:39] S1: Go and play roulette. [01:27:40] S0: So apps that that operate markets, Apple can't take a cut when you're doing like a stock... When you're trading [01:27:49] S7: stock. I don't think they can or do. [01:27:50] S0: They they don't. Yeah. We know that. [01:27:52] S1: Yeah. [01:27:52] S0: Yeah. Then it wouldn't... The the whole... All the economics would not work. Yeah. They should. So what casino what casino game... [01:27:58] S1: 40% of your retirement in Robinhood because you installed it on that.
01:27:58 · John Coogan, Mark Gurman, Jordi Hays, Jasper Zhang
[01:27:58] S1: 40% of your retirement in Robinhood because you installed it on that. [01:28:01] S7: Can you imagine? [01:28:02] S1: Would you be shocked if there [01:28:02] S7: was a headline out? Like Apple bans Robinhood from the App Store because it's not using their payment process. [01:28:07] S1: You're not. [01:28:08] S7: Right? That's like... That feels like a headline from three years ago. Like a legit headline for three years. [01:28:12] S0: But what what what are these casino games that that are not tied... They're not like... Because sports betting apps, they're not taking a cut they're not taking a cut of... [01:28:22] S1: Well, don't they kick you out and ask for your credit card to load up or take crypto or something? [01:28:27] S7: I'll be honest with you guys. [01:28:27] S0: No way. [01:28:28] S4: Don't use [01:28:28] S7: any of these apps. I don't use Polymarket or Kalshi. [01:28:31] S0: Well, you're not doing your job. No. I actually... I I I'm... This company makes billions of dollars from casino games and you're like... [01:28:37] S7: Keeping my job too. Don't use those things actually. So there you [01:28:40] S0: Not even for research. You can't you can't get a $100...... [01:28:44] S1: Watch sports. Certainly, that's not a violation [01:28:46] S7: of I numbers. Get angry enough watching the Lakers [01:28:50] S1: Okay. [01:28:50] S7: K, and get anxious about... [01:28:51] S1: If you have money on the line, [01:28:52] S7: you'll be open. Don't need to add another layer to that. [01:28:55] S1: Okay. Well, I appreciate your your your your discipline there.
01:28:55 · John Coogan, Jordi Hays, Mark Gurman
[01:28:55] S1: Okay. Well, I appreciate your your your your discipline there. [01:28:59] S0: Very cool that Apple makes billions from casino games. So... [01:29:03] S1: Yeah. [01:29:04] S7: Good thing they criticize and say shouldn't exist. [01:29:06] S1: Yeah. The digital economy. They get their cut. Anyway, the house always wins with Apple. Always wins. Thank you so much for coming on the show. [01:29:14] S0: I wish we had more time. [01:29:15] S1: Of course. Always. Let's hang out soon. [01:29:17] S7: Yes. See you guys. [01:29:24] S1: There's a big big [01:29:25] S0: chunk out of this one. [01:29:27] S1: Pretty durability testing.... Dude. He's the Whistlin Diesel of technology, Jordi Hays. [01:29:31] S0: Let's get a... Can we get a replay on that durability test pulled up especially Tyler's [01:29:37] S1: throat? [01:29:37] S0: I think [01:29:37] S1: the replay is tied to the Gong cam specifically. Let me pull up MongoDB. What's the only thing faster than the AI market? Your business on MongoDB. Don't just own the data platform. Don't just don't just build AI. Own the data platform. [01:29:49] S0: Production team. [01:29:50] S1: It. Chow. [01:29:51] S0: The next guest is with us. Let's let's work on getting a a replay. [01:29:55] S1: Because we have Zach [01:29:56] S0: Rash from
01:29:56 · Jordi Hays, John Coogan, Zach Rash, Jasper Zhang
[01:29:56] S0: Rash from [01:29:57] S1: Coco Robotics, the cofounder and CEO for his first appearance here on TBPN. Welcome to the show, Zach. Thank you so much for taking the time [01:30:05] S0: to talk about [01:30:06] S1: with us. How are you doing? [01:30:07] S8: Gentlemen, thanks for having me. [01:30:09] S0: It's great to have you. [01:30:10] S1: How many of these robots you got these days? [01:30:13] S8: We got about a thousand of them, but we have our next robot coming out soon, so you'll start seeing those around LA. [01:30:19] S4: What Have [01:30:20] S8: you guys gotten a delivery? [01:30:21] S1: Wait. Wait. I have never gotten a delivery from a delivery robot. I see them all the time in [01:30:26] S0: Los Angeles [01:30:28] S1: that I know of. Can can the robots release the item autonomously? [01:30:33] S0: We don't know that that Coco's not live testing humanoid form factors with, you know, rubber masks that that make them. Potentially. We don't know. We don't know. That's true. They haven't come out and said that they're not doing that. [01:30:45] S1: But the current the current system is if I were to get a delivery in a Coco Robot, I would go up to it and pull the bag of food out of the bucket. Right? [01:30:56] S8: Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Well, we gotta get you guys a delivery then. [01:30:58] S1: Let's do it. [01:30:59] S8: But, yeah, for anyone that doesn't know, I mean, this is this is what they look like. This is a miniature three d printed version of it. But Yeah. It's a purpose built robot, designed for, moving goods around our cities.
