[00:32:42] S1: There's not... There's next year. But we need to, like, fundamentally reinvent the way we do post trading. [00:32:48] S0: Okay. Last question I wanna end on. Something I... I've been thinking about and asking more and more people recently is, is there an example of, like, science fiction, a book, movie, some some kind of... It doesn't have to be science fiction. It can just be, like, some sort of fiction that, you find yourself sort of, like, returning to as you sort of try to model the future. The example I give is The Player of Games Oh, yes. The culture... The second book in the Culture series, which is not a particularly novel answer. Mhmm. But, like, it it does. It, like, shapes the way I I sort of try to model out what, you know, the radical future might look like. Do you have any examples? That's an [00:33:28] S1: interesting question. I think perhaps the surprising answer might be no. Like, I I love science fiction. I think, like, almost projecting forward seems seems better. Like, we have... I don't know. Yeah. I guess I I... I'm surprised that I don't now that I think about it. Like, I think the Culture series is excellent. Interested in what in Manifest Space [00:33:47] S0: I took you to. [00:33:48] S1: Yeah. There's a... [00:33:49] S0: Yeah. Some some spiral just happened. Right? Like, what is at the end of it?

[00:33:49] S0: Yeah. Some some spiral just happened. Right? Like, what is at the end of it? [00:33:52] S1: I mean, yeah, sometimes in, like, a pessimistic kind of moves. One of the books in the, like, the the the the Dark Forest series, right, where... You know? But but there's this sort of thing coming to the... Coming... There's this, like, big mysterious thing of some unknown strength coming towards them, they're, like, trying to figure out what to do. Okay. So maybe maybe... [00:34:14] S0: So the trisolarans in this case are AI and and and we are in a a sort of a state of we should probably have some solution to this big thing coming our way. [00:34:26] S1: Yeah. Except they're not coming up from the light. [00:34:28] S0: Does that make you a wall phaser? [00:34:31] S1: No. They don't seem to have very much fun. Oh, this seems like a job. Well, [00:34:38] S0: that's an interesting place to leave this conversation at. Right? I'd like [00:34:41] S1: to say something more optimistic. But I [00:34:45] S0: Maybe maybe we can... We'll we'll say part two at some point. Yeah. Right? The exact context of the moves that... That's been sort of shaping the conversation today probably makes that one a little more top of mind, I imagine. [00:34:57] S1: I guess... I mean, I guess because, like, it seems clear that the upside is so huge. I almost don't need to think about the sci fi side of things. I can just think about what might... What is, like, likely to happen if we get it right. That seems underrepresented in science fiction if I'm just like, okay. Well...

What is, like, likely to happen if we get it right. That seems underrepresented in science fiction if I'm just like, okay. Well... [00:35:10] S0: It's not as dramatic to be like, and then they lived happily ever. [00:35:13] S1: Yeah. There's a few... [00:35:14] S0: That's supposed to be after the drama. Exactly. I guess also sort of definitionally, if you were working on interpretability, you're kind of like, I'm I'm worried about the the monsters in the forest. I'm trying to be able to, like, see them. You know? [00:35:24] S1: Like Yeah. Well... But, I mean, I don't actually think about that very much day to day. I'm like, I just love finding out how things are working. [00:35:31] S0: Alright. Well, that... I think that's a happy note to Yeah. End things on. Tom, I appreciate you joining us here on Minus One and coming back to SPC. Thank you for [00:35:39] S1: having me.
