[00:05:36] S2: So many steps. Yeah. So many steps. So many steps. [00:05:40] S1: Yes. So let's let's put this all together. So, you know, linen shirt, long pants, white sneakers, and perhaps a hat. And that's... This is the ad tech... Tuxedo of next week. [00:05:53] S2: I agree entirely. The only thing I will... Look, extra added point for... If you're new to Cannes, don't go sockless because you gotta get on the on the yachts, and you want... You don't wanna be sockless in a business meeting. Right? Because you have to take off your shoes in most of the yachts. So you have a have a ankle length sock. [00:06:11] S1: Yes. Yes. Agreed. You know, one other thing on this, and we've probably lost 99% of the listeners who [00:06:19] S2: are not going to camp. This is what they this is what they listen for. This is like the best episode we've ever had. [00:06:24] S1: I've I've come around on the on on the the the topic of the the Merce. So, you know, you gotta carry a lot of things with you. Right? So power bank, AirPods, notebook, pen, hand sanitizer if you're me, like, there's just a whole bunch of things that your your pockets just max out. So what do you do? You're not gonna slap a backpack. Your back will be just, I mean, soaked through. You are not gonna wear a blazer. You need some sort of bag. And, you know, like a cross body bag type of situation. I I feel like I gotta do it this year, man.

I I feel like I gotta do it this year, man. [00:07:00] S2: Yeah. I think cross body makes sense. You're definitely right about the backpack. The backpack is just too much sweating. But what about the the diagonal sweat stain? That's a particularly weird one where you're wearing the cross body, then you get on the yacht, and you take off the bag. It's like you have a diagonal sweat stain. It's it's pretty awkward. [00:07:17] S3: Yes. Yeah. I had thought about that one. [00:07:19] S1: You know what? I'll go full Joe Rogan and I'll just wear it fanny pack style. There you go. [00:07:25] S2: Alright. So if you see That is you see someone if you see someone walking down the crescent with a laptop on their ass, it's Eric. And [00:07:36] S1: that completes the AdTech tuxedo for $20.26. Thank you very much.

[00:07:36] S1: that completes the AdTech tuxedo for $20.26. Thank you very much. [00:07:40] S2: Alright. So, as last week, we're gonna do the news first and the interview second, just kinda mixing things up. If you guys like it this way, let me know. You'll reach out and let me know how you prefer the show because we're mixing up the format a little bit. The interview later to... Later after we go through the news is with old friend of mine, Patrick Dolan, who is the... From the Out-of-Home Advertising Association, and he's gonna give us the current state of out of home, how AI fits in, how CTV converges, retail media, a bunch of other stuff. So it should be interesting if you're interested in out of home. And with that, was there any big M and A news this week, Eric? [00:08:16] S1: I don't know. God. We got M and A, and then we've got, maybe some M and A, some crazy talk around a deal that got floated. So let's talk about those off the top. We're recording this on Thursday on... I think it was Sunday, news dropped that Fox is the acquirer, long awaited long awaited acquirer of Roku. They are buying Roku for 22,000,000,000, I think the number is? [00:08:44] S2: Yeah. Sounds right.
00:08:44 · Ari Paparo, Eric Franchi
[00:08:44] S2: Yeah. Sounds right. [00:08:45] S1: Yeah. $2,022,000,000,000. And, you know, again, one that you probably had them in your list of top five, top six acquirers, maybe not in your top one or two. So, you know, again, another head scratcher, but then when you look at it, it makes perfect sense. There's a lot to, you know, kinda like unpack and comb through on this one. But I think from my perspective, if I'm Fox, and I wanna take a shot at, you know, the fast market, right, which is, you know, where where a lot of the action is for for for a lot of these ad sellers, you take Tubi, which you already own, you combine it with Roku, and you got 5% of the fast market. You are a player in fast. You got a lot of ads to sell. So, you know, there's a lot of ways you can kinda unpack a thesis, but from there, like, that one was the no brainer to me.
00:09:33 · Ari Paparo
[00:09:33] S2: Yeah. I don't have, like, any really strongly held takes here, except it's the the whole streaming world is horizontally complicated. You have some companies that have hardware, some that don't, some have ad groups, some that don't. And so you... I think we're gonna continue to see anyone that's not part of one of the giant hold goes or giant tech companies get acquired to fill in the gaps. With Fox, they're not in among the top streamers from... Especially from a paid perspective, and they have their legacy assets, you know, Fox News, Fox Sports, etcetera, that are mostly tied to the traditional bundle. So sort of makes sense as a way to jump start that or leapfrog it in combining with Tubi. Also, this week, we'll get to the AI news. There's so many things in AI, but Fox also announced just a whole bunch of AI stuff, which kinda speaks towards how they see the future evolving. So that's as much as I've got. I kept trying to think of some, you know, genius take no one else had had, and I just don't have it. Nothing came up.
00:10:33 · Eric Franchi
[00:10:33] S1: Yeah. I think maybe maybe two things if we're if we're riffing. Roku's got great o and o real estate. You know, I think that can be in the in the right hands from a packaging perspective. Pretty interesting. You could probably do some interesting things around sports. I know Fox is always a player when it comes to, you know, selling sports packages and, you know, obviously having having some of the rookie inventory and footprint. That's interesting. I do wonder... Gosh. I wish we had Rich Greenfield on, you know, to talk about this stuff. Like like, you know, Roku sells across, you know, various streamers. And those streamers, a lot of those streamers are like real competitors to Fox. So, you know, the state of that, you know, having Fox having the ability to, you know, sell NBC, have, you know, access to decisioning and everything like that. That might be a little bit of a of a head scratcher and you might, you know, raise the the walls a little bit higher in some of these walled gardens, but this is this is super super interesting. You know, a lot of people thought that at a different time, TTD was the acquirer of Roku, and we will never know.
