[00:34:14] S1: Yeah. [00:34:15] S4: And and then, like, Tyler from Beehiiv was using it as a... As an example of, like, growth slowing down and why Beehiiv is, like, [00:34:25] S2: a Better. [00:34:26] S4: A better platform. But, I don't know how these platform wars are gonna shake out, but I... Doesn't really feel like a war. [00:34:33] S1: Yeah. I mean, I I... I'm personally in favor of, like, accepting the fact that you might eventually reach your total addressable market, and then your and then your job is not to go and find people that are further and further outside of your target demographic. It's about how do you actually build the community further with movie nights and all sort of podcasts and all sorts of different things for the people that actually like the content fit in that demo. [00:34:56] S4: Yeah. Instead of trying to broaden broaden. What the general media landscape's gonna look like in a year. It seems like everybody's sort of building their own little digest. [00:35:05] S1: Yeah. What do you think of the the... I don't know what they call it. It's like the round trip. It's like you work for social media. You leave, and then on day... On the day that you leave, you sign with traditional media for distribution, but you still own your equity. How have you processed those types of deals? [00:35:19] S4: What's an example of that? [00:35:19] S1: An example would be hard fork turning into machine gods. [00:35:23] S5: Oh,

[00:35:23] S5: Oh, [00:35:23] S1: yeah. They left the New York Times. They said they said, I I can't possibly work with traditional media anymore, and then they signed with NPR. But, obviously, the the read on this is not, oh, they don't like traditional media. It's that the economics are way different when you own the property yourself, but then you're licensing to NPR as opposed to [00:35:42] S4: the New [00:35:42] S1: York Times owns your property, and you don't see any of the upside there. Joanna Stern would be another example Yeah. Where she went independent from The Wall Street Journal, but then had a TV distribution deal for some of her content. Co dependent. One. Going co dependent, I suppose, could be the term. [00:35:56] S4: Yeah. I mean, I think it's hard to run a whole business by yourself when you start looking at, like, legal fees, social media, the marketing team, the person who's actually pressing send. Like, it's a lot of work, and, I think it's smart that some of these people are outsourcing some of that work to these places that have in house experts. I wish I had some of that sometimes.

[00:36:17] S1: But Some of the deals, I I think, are are not huge economics, not huge on support, but it helps you sort of carry some of your prestige forward. Yeah. Because when you leave legacy media and your your post legacy, as we say, the post legacy creator can be stuck in, like, oh, wow. I need to rebuild my Yeah. My prestige. And if you can, on day one, have a big logo next to you in some way, that's probably valuable. What is your iPhone Duo review, your iPhone Duo take? Are you pro duo? [00:36:50] S4: Haven't used it yet, but I read this morning that they've been snapping. Yeah. I sat next to dinner. I was sitting next to a friend the other night, and he had one. [00:36:57] S1: Okay. So, we dug into the snap issue, the the screen breaking, the crack crack gate. It is happening, but in a very small amount. [00:37:05] S4: Do you guys have them? [00:37:06] S1: No. I have not. Think I [00:37:08] S2: have to get one. I talked I talked so much Bob [00:37:11] S1: Goodman loves it. TJ Parker loves it. [00:37:14] S4: There's some really positive What's with the snap?
00:37:14 · Emily Sundberg, John Coogan, Jordi Hays
[00:37:14] S4: There's some really positive What's with the snap? [00:37:16] S1: So the snap is a manufacturing defect in the hinge, maybe, like, less than 1%, a very small amount, probably less than 0.1% of Duo ship with this flaw. If you open it, it's gonna break almost immediately. Mhmm. If it doesn't and you get through the first week, you're probably good forever. [00:37:33] S2: Mhmm. [00:37:33] S1: And so they're gonna fix that. Forget that the crack is even an issue because you will have one that doesn't crack within a week. [00:37:41] S4: The first time you guys haven't jumped at a new iPhone? [00:37:44] S2: Yes. I mean, I I jump as soon as I I jump as soon as the device is deprecated, basically. Okay. I do that basically basically [00:37:54] S4: as Mine soon as still smashed from Ken. [00:37:56] S1: Oh, yeah. Yep. [00:37:57] S4: Even though I have the [00:37:58] S1: new one. [00:37:58] S2: I think [00:37:59] S1: I might have skipped one a year a year or two ago. Yeah. Because they they they just stopped that. [00:38:02] S2: Just stopped caring. Every once in a while, I'm like, okay. It'd be nice if it was it was... Had a longer battery life and a slightly better camera. Yeah. And then I'll upgrade. But... Yep. [00:38:13] S4: Are you living the case free life? [00:38:14] S1: Case free... [00:38:15] S2: Yeah. Yeah. It's it's shockingly robust. [00:38:17] S1: Patina as well is what [00:38:18] S2: they say. Yeah. Yeah. [00:38:18] S1: Is nice to worn [00:38:19] S2: in. Yeah.

[00:38:19] S2: in. Yeah. [00:38:20] S1: This one actually wears in even better because, the scratches blend in. When you have the color, the color rubs off. [00:38:26] S4: Yeah. The orange. [00:38:26] S1: It gets real... Yeah. I'm sure you have a lot of patina on there. [00:38:29] S4: Yeah. I do. [00:38:29] S1: Which can be a choice. How long [00:38:31] S4: are [00:38:31] S5: you guys [00:38:31] S4: in the city? [00:38:32] S1: Twenty hours. We're leaving tonight. Twenty hours. Yeah. Twenty hours. [00:38:36] S4: Back before 2027? [00:38:38] S1: What do you mean? Oh, in New [00:38:40] S4: York. Yeah. [00:38:40] S1: I mean, we'll be back in LA before 2027. Be back tonight. [00:38:43] S0: Hopefully. But, [00:38:46] S1: yes, I think we'll be back. We gotta come back. There's gonna be so many tree lighting. [00:38:49] S4: Yes. Road to Christmas. [00:38:50] S2: Yeah. The road to Christmas. [00:38:52] S1: You you gotta hit Rockefeller. [00:38:53] S5: You were [00:38:53] S4: saying there's a lot of Christmas colors in here. [00:38:55] S1: It's sturdy. [00:38:56] S2: On a A lot of red today. Actually, a nice a nice mix. Yeah. That's great. It's kinda balanced out. Mean, look at this sign over here. It's kind of a perfect balance. [00:39:04] S4: Yeah. Tomorrow's a new day. [00:39:05] S1: That's good. Well, thank you so much for coming on. [00:39:07] S2: Thanks for [00:39:07] S4: having me, guys. See soon. Take it easy.
