The MAD Podcast: How AI Gets Built — with Matt Turck
01:05:17 · Matt Turck, Nathan Benaich
[01:05:17] S1: Do you wanna finish with a rapid fire? Let's go. Most overrated trend of 2026. [01:05:25] S0: Home cleaning robots. [01:05:28] S1: Those don't work? [01:05:30] S0: No. [01:05:31] S1: Why is it that everybody wants that specific use case of, like, folding laundry? Is that is that because it's [01:05:38] S0: a trackable one? I don't know. It's it's it's a bit like, you know, the the demo of like agents booking flights. I I heard like very recently that now like San Francisco is like starting to say like, can you show me a demo of like not booking flights? I'm like, thank god I've been saying this for like ten years. [01:05:55] S1: Alright. I said rapid fire and then ask you a follow on question. So most underrated slide in your own report. [01:06:03] S0: The amount of money that you would have made investing in NVIDIA instead of investing in alternative semiconductor companies. [01:06:12] S1: And unpack that quickly. [01:06:13] S0: If you had invested all the money that went into alternative semiconductor companies into NVIDIA on the dates that those rounds were announced, you'd have made four times more money. [01:06:22] S1: Yeah. And then to close the prediction from the past eight reports that you are the most proud of?

[01:06:22] S1: Yeah. And then to close the prediction from the past eight reports that you are the most proud of? [01:06:29] S0: Oh, that NVIDIA would not conclude the acquisition of ARM. That was that was a big one back then. I mean, people thought it was really gonna happen and like we took the view that like for geopolitical reasons and competition reasons that it would not happen. And to some degree, like, ARM shareholders made a crap ton of money by not closing that acquisition. To another degree, like, NVIDIA would have had, like, the most impressive CPU business that could have been really accretive to their their cloud, particularly as like the rise of agents and RL and everything else that actually needs... That's kind of CPU bound. And and I think that could have also like shook up a bit of bit of the geopolitical dynamics too. [01:07:07] S1: Okay, wonderful. That's a great one. Nathan, thank you so much for coming back and thank you for doing again this State of AI Report, which is an extraordinary amount of work that you and hopefully your agents now do every year. It's available at stateof.ai, and you have a you have a video that accompanies it. That's also a good resource. And people can find you on Twitter. [01:07:38] S0: Yep. Yep. Find on Nathan Benaich or at State of AI. And, yeah, thank you so much for the opportunity. It's always a pleasure. And, I mean, it's bananas what's happened in the last year alone. So let's see AGI next year when I'm in New York.
