Junior reaches $30M ARR fully bootstrapped, scaling from 25 to 75 people and 60-plus customers after about 60 funds passed on its 2023 raise.
Junior launches a voice agent and pushes into investment banking, betting the voice intelligence layer outlasts the workflow layer as software goes headless.
Samouris predicts consulting's billable hour gives way to output-based pricing and a leaner staffing model once AI drafts most of a scope of work.
Bootstrapped Junior hits $30m selling voice AI to consultants
Junior sells voice AI that captures and structures the conversations professional services teams have internally and with clients, turning them into a knowledge graph those firms can automate on. It reached a $30m run rate and 75 people with no outside capital by winning boutique consulting firms first. Samouris bets the workflow layer fades as software goes headless, leaving voice and data as the durable position, and that billable hours give way to output pricing.
Takeaways
Bootstrapped to $30m on referrals, not marketing. Junior began the year with 25 people and now has 75, more than 60 customers and a $30m run rate, all bootstrapped. Growth came from peer referrals, and a partner's warm introduction beats cold outbound worth hundreds of thousands.
The workflow layer will fade away. Samouris argues software is going headless and agents will do everything, so the durable position is the data input and voice intelligence layer. A diligence report is a knowledge graph flattened into a PowerPoint.
AI splits consultants by how they see themselves. Consultants who see the job as force amplification are fearful, those who see themselves as trusted advisers bullish. He expects leaner staffing and the end of billable hours toward output pricing once a scope of work becomes an 80% draft.
Change management, not technology, is the hard part. Samouris asks what good a 20% improvement does a partner paid by the billable hour. Training staff and running global support around the clock are harder than the software itself, and most firms still solve only for individual productivity.
Junior moves from transcription to the whole deal. It has launched a voice agent product and Junior Dictation, cracked the top 30 private equity funds and plans to cover every diligence workstream, connecting the sponsor and the bank running the deal.
Headcount is vanity, 90 days is the horizon. Samouris says what matters is finding the right people and amplifying them, and that looking beyond 90 days is a fool's errand. He lost sleep over Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI's SharePoint connectors, then learned to focus on what he controls.
From boot camp to paying customers
Left consulting in spring 2022 just before making partner, then retrained as a software engineer at a coding boot camp.
Entered an accelerator with no intention of building for consulting or private equity, and spent months searching elsewhere.
GPT-3's release at Christmas 2022 and OpenAI's Whisper, out days after co-founder Nico built a Chrome plug-in summarising news, convinced them transcription plus language models could change diligence.
