Confluent launches Streamhouse at Current 2026, a data architecture unifying streaming, governance, processing and real-time querying for AI agents.
Confluent CTO Stephen Deasy says governed fresh data is the biggest blocker to agentic production, and MCP-ifying access and lakehouses haven't worked.
Fewer than a third of Confluent customers run agentic workflows in production, and nearly two thirds say data is the key blocker.
Confluent pitches Streamhouse as the data layer for AI agents
Confluent is betting that the missing input for agentic AI is governed, current data, and it announced Streamhouse at Current 2026 to supply it. The pitch separates analyzing the business, which lakehouses do in batches, from running it, where agents need streaming data processed in real time. Streamhouse launched as an industry category with other vendors, and it builds on open standards like Kafka and Flink so customers avoid starting over.
Takeaways
Governed fresh data blocks agentic AI. Fewer than a third of Confluent customers run agentic workflows in production, and nearly two thirds of enterprises call data a key blocker, per the company's data streaming report. Deasy says MCP-ifying access and moving data into lakehouses have not fixed it.
Streamhouse runs the business on live data. Deasy separates analyzing the business, where batches feed dashboards and humans decide, from running it, where decisions happen continuously on streaming data. He tells CIOs Streamhouse unlocks data already collected across their services and databases rather than replacing their stack.
Open standards spare customers a technology refresh. Streamhouse rests on Kafka for streaming and Apache Flink for processing, with data landing in Iceberg and Delta and integrating with existing catalogs. Deasy says that lets companies adopt real-time use cases without an entire technology refresh.
ROI depends on the operational use case. Deasy says returns vary by use case, pointing to observability and fraud detection. Instacart managed orders, inventory, fulfillment and returns in real time during a COVID demand spike. Citizens Bank cut loan fulfillment times and loan reprocessing on what is now Streamhouse.
Probabilistic models need continuous evaluation. Agentic systems move companies from software tested in regression to models that must be checked continuously. Deasy says combining models with context lets firms assess output quality in real time and reprocess historical data with newer context.
Agentic production rates will rise sharply. Deasy predicts production rates will climb significantly over the next year or two as solutions like Streamhouse remove the blockers customers report, and that companies will start to crest the wave and realize value from data they already have.
What Confluent announced at Current 2026
Lightning Tables gives true SQL and API access to Kafka data at very low latency, with Confluent governing the schema for customers.
Tableflow is now generally available on GCP, making it available on all clouds. It produces data in Iceberg and Delta formats and integrates with existing catalogs.
A webhook connector lets event producers put data onto the stream without ever touching a Kafka cluster. Deasy calls it one of the standout announcements.
Managed model inference lets customers on Confluent Cloud connect to models Confluent runs for them, including Google and IBM time series models for anomaly detection.
