Scott Logan starts Wyllo's marketing dashboard at the stage-zero meeting set, keeping that data off the sales pipeline dashboard.
Logan argues AEO is now critical, prioritizing website structure, competitor comparisons and FAQs over Reddit seeding.
Logan builds a "Claude designer" trained on Wyllo's frameworks and templates and connects Claude to CRM and marketing automation data via MCP.
Marketing should be measured from the meeting, not the lead
Scott Logan is building demand generation from scratch at Wyllo, a fraud-prevention software company that spent its first years partner- and sales-led. His answer is to blend brand and demand so everything points back to revenue, to prioritise AI search visibility over fading channels, and to measure marketing from the stage-zero meeting set rather than the lead, keeping those meetings off the sales pipeline dashboard.
Takeaways
Report from the meeting set, not the lead. Logan tracks original lead source, converting lead source and every campaign touch. Stage-zero meetings stay off the sales pipeline dashboard, or leadership asks where the opportunities are. He calls meeting-to-opportunity conversion above 50 percent pretty good, and tracks no-show rates and time to meeting.
AI search optimisation is now the priority. AI search engines went from seldom used to heavily used within six to twelve months. Logan says website structure and code, best-of lists, competitor comparisons and question-and-answer FAQs drive visibility, and he skips Reddit seeding because users at startups and large enterprises report hit-or-miss results.
Branding and demand generation should be one motion. Logan folds branding and awareness into demand generation so every effort points back to revenue, and says marketing exists to help sales sell more faster. Wyllo had been partner- and sales-led for years with no formal demand generation before he was hired to build it.
Email is weakening, so revive older channels. Deliverability suffers especially for newer brands without established lists or domain ranking. Logan wants heavier direct mail, heavier retargeting and field events for a core group of target accounts, folded into modern ABM. He treats open and click rates as vanity metrics.
Five marketers is right for Series A or B. He calls about five marketers a healthy sweet spot for a Series A or Series B company. The roles are an operations person, a campaign manager, a coordinator for logistics and lists, and a product person linking the product roadmap and customer stories to demand generation.
Claude doubles as Wyllo's data analyst. Logan built a Claude designer trained on the company's frameworks and templates, and connected Claude through MCP to pooled CRM and marketing automation data. Product, sales and marketing can then build arguments, use cases and business cases faster, since one question surfaces the answer.
